This June, something wonderful happened: our Holiday English Conversation Bootcamp. A group of German speakers came together for three weeks with one goal — not perfection, but real conversation.
And I want to share what I learned from them, because it confirmed everything I believe about learning English.
Lesson one: courage is contagious. In the first session, everyone was nervous. By the third, people were volunteering to speak first. When one person dares, the whole room dares a little more.
Lesson two: consistency beats intensity. Nobody became fluent in three weeks — that was never the promise. But everyone who showed up regularly spoke longer, paused less, and smiled more by the end. Small steps, taken together, are powerful.
Lesson three: vacation English is real English. We practiced the situations people actually face: small talk with fellow travelers, asking for help, ordering with confidence, telling a story about your day. Nobody needed Shakespeare. They needed to be understood — and to enjoy it.
Lesson four: the goal was never perfection. I said it on day one and I'll say it again: the goal is confidence, fluency through practice, and the habit of speaking. Every single person left with more of all three.
To everyone who joined: thank you for your trust, your laughter, and your courage. You reminded me why I do this work.
And if you missed it — don't worry. There will be more. The next bootcamp is already taking shape, and my regular conversation courses run all year. Send me a message to reserve your spot, and let's get you speaking.
